Johnson & Johnson's orthopedics business is being prepared as a standalone company to be named DePuy Synthes, and the unit generated approximately USD 9.2 billion of sales in fiscal 2024. J&J said the separated company would be the largest and most comprehensive orthopaedics-focused company.
The transaction is a planned separation of J&J's orthopedics business into a standalone company rather than a sale, with J&J exploring multiple paths to execute the spinoff; no valuation or consideration terms were disclosed.
J&J expects the separation to close within 18 to 24 months, with Namal Nawana appointed worldwide president of DePuy Synthes to oversee the process, and says the split will sharpen its focus on higher-growth, higher-margin MedTech and Innovative Medicine areas.
